After a couple hard weeks of training, I’m all about taking some extra Vitamin ‘R’, as in RECOVERY! Without this essential vitamin, chances are I would get sick, injured, or even worse…..slower.
Too many athletes push their bodies day in and day out without really looking at the big picture in their training. When was the last day that they took a day off? When was the last time they just went easy?
You’ve always heard a coach preach on race tactics, right? Where they say, “I want you to pace the bike at ‘x’ watts for the first half of the race, and then the remainder of the race I want you to back it off just a notch so that you can run well off the bike.” Well, training is like a race. If you push, push, push, push you just end up in the hospital after awhile; because after all the body is not indestructible.
So the next time you feel like you’re coming down with a cold, not sleeping well, getting stressed over the little things in life….then take a day off. It won’t kill you, and in fact it might just save your season!
